In Let Silk Cut Marble, silk and stone are interwoven, creating tension as crumbling fragments of marble are stitched into a white silk fabric. The stone is held by threads that seem too fine to bear its weight. Beside the work, olive oil drips slowly, marking time, threatening to stain, whilst continuing its own quiet course. Suspended within an aluminium framework, the materials hold each other in a contemporary industrial light.

What was once a method for cutting thin slabs of marble becomes a metaphor for transformation. A small act that unsettles the idea of which substance carries strength, and which one yields.

The artwork consists of white silk suspended from an aluminium bar, with marble fragments embroidered onto the fabric using silk thread. In front of the textile hangs a dripping mechanism made of an aluminium ring, connected by silk strings to a slowly releasing bag of olive oil. The oil drips onto a marble stone resting on an aluminium tray on the floor.
